The Reemergence of Gouldian Finches
Considered one of the most beautiful birds in the world, the Gouldian finch is prized for its gorgeous plumage. It has a bright green back, yellow belly, and purple breast with black facial markings. Adult males have bright purple breast feathers, while adult females’ are dull purple. The young finches look completely different from the adults: they are a greenish gray.
Gouldian finches were once found in large numbers across northern Australia, spanning the Northern Territory, Western Australia, and Queensland regions.
This year 2022, these beautiful birds have been recently recorded in flocks of up to 200 in tropical north Queensland, where previously only a few individuals had been reported since last century. Note: It’s still endangered.
The reason for the recent resurface of the Gouldian finches are unclear but recent reports said that it might be due to a drop in the number of known predator of Gouldian finches.
New Yorker Man Arrested Over Bird Feeders
A 71-year-old New York state man was arrested for having too many feeder trays on his property.
Apparently, it is because of a village ordinance that states residents can have a maximum of two bird feeders and that they must be at least five feet tall.
