Mark Clayton
Mark Clayton is one of Australia’s leading field ornithologists. He began bird banding whilst at school in the 1970s. He worked for the whole of his professional life in CSIRO. He authored and co-authored many significant ornithological reference works and has contributed to dozens of books on Australian birds.
Neil Hermes
Neil Hermes is a Canberra-based ornithologist, columnist, expedition leader, science communicator, political advisor and author who has written about 20 books. His passion is birds. He studied Zoology (Honours) at Australian National University. He has had a career in National Parks (Kakadu, Uluru, Norfolk Island and Booderee) was A/Director at Questacon the Australian National Science and Technology Centre.
WHAT SHOULD I BRING?
Appropriate clothing for the weather conditions. A hat is usually a must. For cooler climates we always recommend bringing a jumper/coat along with a raincoat just in case. Remember that drab coloured clothing is preferable to bright colours. We’ve made a special video for what to wear too. Bring a pair of binoculars (and a telescope) if you have them. Depending on the environment we are visiting you may need to be conscious of insects eg flys, mosquitos, or ticks, and come prepared
WHAT IS YOUR CANCELLATION POLICY?
In the event of unforeseen circumstances on our end or cancellation due to weather, we will do our best to work with you to reschedule the tour. For a change of mind reasons, less than 3 days before departure 75% is refunded. Less than 24 hours before departure 50% is refunded. However, for many of the tours like the beginner bird watching walk, you can rebook your tour for no extra charge.
WHAT HAPPENS IF THE ITINERARY CHANGES?
On some of our tours, some external events impact our original itinerary – like bad weather, closed roads, etc. We will adapt our itinerary to suit the conditions on the day, however, we will always do our best to achieve a full birdwatching activity! In some cases, we may be alerted to a new bird sighting and we’ll try and add this into our tour slightly deviating from our original itinerary.
WHAT LEVEL OF FITNESS DO I NEED?
An average level of moderate walking ability is required for our birding safaris. We do not expect a high level of fitness. Please get in touch if you have any special requirements to see if the safari can cater to your needs.
